George Keate 1729-1797 British School late 18th.Century. Watercolour drawing Circa.1770.

A rare view of an 18th.Century "Pleasure Garden" with figures dancing to a band and others dining in supper boxes. A scene at Ranelagh Gardens St Peter's Margate Kent.

Pencil and watercolour on laid paper 17.4 x 25.1cms.

Provenance: Sotheby's, London, Colin Hunter Collection of Early English Watercolours 11 July 1991, lot 93; Ex. Collection of Robin and Rupert Hambro.

Keate exhibited a Margate subject at the Royal Academy in 1772 and published engravings of Margate in 1779.
