Édouard Fraisse 1880-1945. French School Early 20th.Century. Rare Art Déco bronze plaque. Depicting a naked female representing Victory flying to her left holding a wreath in her left hand. The reverse showing a view of an unspoilt Monte Carlo. A very fine cast with good patina. 6.5 by 5.6 cms. Provenance: ex Fellerman collection.
The Monte Carlo Rally was first held in January 1911. With Pre-war events having starting points across Europe and North Africa. The Rally was intended to demonstrate improvements and innovation in automobiles and to promote Monaco as a tourist resort. The seventh running of this event was won by a Frenchman Jacques Bignan in a Fiat 509, starting from Bucharest.
Fraisse was a French sculptor, engraver, and medalist. Primarily known for his works inspired by or commissioned for sports events. He is often associated with the Society of French Artists and his work was exhibited at the Salon, where he won a gold medal in 1937.
