Robert Powell was a prominent dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company serving as a leading dancer for the company during the 1960s and early 1970s. He died in 1977 at the early age of 38.
Martha Graham said of him : “In my life, I've met very few dancers who are what I call ‘naturals.’ By that, I mean a person oriented both physically and emotionally to the body, to himself as a dancer capable of speaking the hidden language of the spirit of man. This I believe Bob Powell was. And I feel we have lost a possible treasure to the world.”
