Eleanor Modrakowska 1879-1956 American School early 20th.Century. Grey wash and charcoal study of Vaclav Nijinsky (1888-1950) in Le Pavillon D'Armide. Signed and dated lower right 1913. Some slight timestaining and edge damage to no real detriment. Modrakowska produced an etching of the same subject for which this is a preparatory study. 29 by 24 cms.
"Le Pavillon D'Armide" is a one act ballet choreographed by Michel Fokine, with music by Nikoli Tcherepnin and libretto by Alexandre Benois. Known for its romantic ballet themes it was famously performed by Vaslav Nijinsky, premiering in 1907 at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg.
