One of Leighton's finest later works, the finished painting for which this is a preliminary study is held by the Milwaukee Art Museum (L1895.1). A statuesque woman in a heavily pleated dress stands at a fountain, her hairstyle clothing and ceramic vessel suggestive of the classical past.
