Georges Barbier 1882-1932. French School Early 20th.Century Pen and ink drawing, signed lower right. Probably an original design idea for Maurice Rostand's play "Casanova" which premiered at the Théâtre des Bouffes-Parisiens at Paris in February 1919. 18 by 10 cms.
Barbier was one of the defining fashion and theatrical designers of early 20th.Century France. Alongside contemporaries such as Erté, he was instrumental in transitionary design, bridging late Art Nouveau elegance with the bold, geometric luxury of the Art Deco movement.
