From a dynasty of American women artists, Jane Emmet was born in New Rochelle and studied in New York at the Art Students League and latterly in Paris. Meeting her husband the artist Wilfrid de Glehn, when he was assisting John Singer Sargent with the Murals for the Boston Public Library. She married De Glehn in 1904 and travelled to England and Europe. The De Glehn's association with Sargent lasted for many years. Alongside Sargent they worked and travelled extensively, often appearing as subjects in his works. Residing in England Jane exhibited independently and sucessfully at the New English Arts Club and at The Royal Academy and also in 1913 alongside her husband at the Fine Art Society in London.
She was not a prolific artist and following the First World War in which she and her husband both served at a British hospital for French soldiers, she exhibited very little.
