John Downman A.R.A 1750-1824
Watercolour, Chalk and stump drawings, a charming pair of portraits of a lady and gentleman. She initialled and dated 1780. 18 by 21 cms. Image. 34.5 by 23 cms overall in 19th.Century gilt gesso frames. Some age discoloration as to be expected with Downman, his technique often means that there is some fragility to his surviving works. There is a split to the paper to the top right of the gentleman to no real detriment.
