A pupil of Francis Towne. Abbott was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy from 1795 onwards. By profession a Surgeon, he painted for his own pleasure and generally did not sell his pictures. He lived and worked in Exeter, the majority of his watercolours and drawings are from his home county of Devon.
