Kate Greenaway studied graphic design and art at the South Kensington School of Art, The Royal Female School of Art and the Slade. She began her career designing for the burgeoning Victorian greetings card market. In 1879 Edmund Evans printed "Under The Window" an instant bestseller establishing her reputation as the leading female illustrator of Children's books.
Edmund Evans 1826-1905 was an English wood-engraver, printmaker and publisher who specialised in full-colour printing, he collaborated with the foremost illustrators of the day such as Walter Crane, Randolph Caldecott and Kate Greenaway to produce what are now considered to be the classic Children's books.
