Late 17th.Century British School Red Chalk drawing of a young woman identifiable as The Honourable Lucy Sherard (1685-1751). Daughter of Bennett 2nd Lord Sherard. She was the second wife of the 2nd Duke of Rutland whom she married in 1713.
Dateable to Circa.1700 this drawing may given the age and scale possibly be JI Smiths preparatory drawing for his Mezzotint engraving after the original painting by Sir Godfrey Kneller at Belvoir Castle. Some general timestaining and marking, laid down to card. 22 by 25.5 cms.
