A satire on British Visitors to Paris during the Peace of 1814. (For similar see Cat 5.12 p.54 "Peace Breaks Out! London & Paris in the Summer of 1814", Sir John Soane's Museum, London, 2014). Having been isolated from Continental Europe for years, British tourists were viewed by the French as gauche and deeply unfashionable. They are depicted here standing in absurd postures before the paintings of the Louvre.
Rare, see BM 1989,1104.13 and Musée Carnavalet, Histoire de Paris G.39128.
