Louis-Philippe Boitard. 18th.Century Anglo-French School. Active 1733-1767. Full length study of a confident young woman wearing a pink dress with white lace and a pearl choker. Pen ink and watercolour drawing on laid paper. Circa.1745. 11.8 by 19 cms image. Slight old mount staining. Gilded wood frame 31.5 by 39 cms. Overall. Provenance: Ex.Bill Drummond. Covent Garden Gallery.  

Born at Paris the son of artist and designer François Boitard 1667-1719. Louis lived most of his life in London. His distinctive manner of drawing and his humour pervades his work which often features mildly satirical drawings of ordinary people. There is another version of this drawing held in the Yale Center for British Art (Accession no.B1977.14.4926).
