Utterly charming Mid 18th.Century reverse glass painting depicting a Lady with an auricula in a terracotta pot. Circa.1745. After an original design by Thomas Burford fl. 1710-1779. In original ebonised sanded slip frame. 36.8 by 46.5 cms overall in frame.

The art of reverse glass painting consists of applying paint to a piece of glass and then viewing the image by turning the glass over and looking through the glass at the image. Given the fragility of the painting surface, relatively few early examples survive.
