Samuel Shelley O.W.S 1750/56-1808. English School 18th.Century. Portrait miniature drawing of Dr Henry Symonds of Hampstead. Inscribed to the reverse 'Mr Shelley's favourite head/the best .... taken of him.' Circa.1770. 9 by 12 cms. 10 by 13 cms overall in frame. Some slight timestaining, to no real detriment.

George Charles Williamson 1858–1942) was a British art historian, antiquarian and author of numerous books on European art and artists. He was in his day the leading specialist in the work of 18th Century Portrait miniaturists.
