Watercolour on wove paper in original giltwood frame, inscribed in ink to the reverse with sitters details and Shelley's address of 6 George Street, Hanover Square. (His residence between 1794-1808). A rare example of a larger scale portrait by this leading miniaturist. The sitter Elizabeth Robertson has been hard to trace, (so many 18th.Century women are). Alexander Robertson 1772-1841 The Scottish-American artist was a pupil of Shelley around this time and she may possibly be a kinswoman of his. 11.3 by 15.3 cms. Painted image. 29 by 32.5 cms.
