Gilpin was a successful 18th.Century English animal painter, illustrator, and etcher who specialised in paintings of horses, dogs and wildlife.
Iolo Williams 1890-1962 leading scholar of British Watercolour drawing. Author of "Early English Water-Colours, and some Cognate Drawings by Artist's Born Not Later Than 1785" the seminal work on the subject.
