Attr. Sigmund Freudenberger (a.k.a Freudenberg) 1745-1801. Swiss School 18th.Century. Study of an elegant lady wearing a robe a la polonaise picking flowers. Black and red chalk on laid paper. Circa.1770. 15 by 22 cms to mounted image. 33.5 by 42 cms overall framed. Slight cockling to sheet and light foxing to no real detriment. Provenance: Private collection UK, Rosebery Auctions as Follower of Nicolas Lancret.

Born at Bern the son of a lawyer Freudenberger studied as a portraitist moving to Paris in 1765, he worked extensively with both François Boucher and Jean-Michel Moreau. Returning to Bern in 1773 where he established a private art school.
