A very unusual study by the master of caricature, there is a similar drawing of a vase by Rowlandson in the collection of The Yale Center for British Art Mellon Collection drawn on the same watermarked paper. B.1975.3.130. The drawing is taken from Charles Errard's "Recueil De Divers Vases" engraved by G.Tournier. Published at Rome Ca.1680.
