Sr. Epicure Guzzle Enjoying His Bottle After Dinner. Rare Mezzotint engraving Published February 29th 1773 by W Humphrey St. Martins Lane. Good impression printed on laid paper laid onto backing card. Some slight surface abrasion and old mount staining to no real detriment. 25.5 by 15.8 cms pl. 28.5 by 43.5 cms sheet.

British Museum description: A very stout man sitting at table in profile to right, contemplating the bottle of port with the cork in his left hand, resting on his stomach, the glass in his other hand; a bill labelled 'Turtle 10 / Venison 10 / Custard 5 ...', bread and a slice of other food on the table in front of him; a sleeping pug dog with a bowl of food on the floor by his chair; tricorn, clock showing 3.15 and a picture of R.E. Pine's portrait of Wilkes lettered 'John Wilkes Esq.' and numbered '45' on the frame, hanging on the wall behind. 1773.
