Attr. William Anderson 1757-1837. Late 18th.Century British School watercolour drawing depicting a ship of the line flying the flag of an Admiral of the White. Probably HMS Vanguard under the command of Captain Edward Berry, Flag Captain to Rear Admiral Sir Horatio Nelson. Circa.1798. Watercolour on laid paper laid onto acid free card. 19th.Century gilt gesso studio frame. 28.5 by 20.5 cms image. 32.5 by 24 cms. Overall in frame. HMS Vanguard was a 74 Gun third rate ship of the line launched in 1787. She fought with distinction at the Battle of The Nile.
