Born in Eye Suffolk, Hoare came to London during the 1720s and in 1728 travelled with Giuseppe Grisoni to Italy where he studied under Fernandi in Rome alongside Pompeo Batoni. He settled in Bath in the late 1730s. Charging 5 guineas for a pastel or 8 guineas framed and glazed. Highly successful he exhibited widely and was a founding member of the Royal Academy.
