William Sawrey Gilpin was an English Watercolourist, drawing-master and in later life a successful landscape garden designer. Founding member and the first President of the Old Watercolour Society.
This particular work is Illustrated and discussed in Iolo Williams "Early English Water-Colours, and some Cognate Drawings by Artist's Born Not Later Than 1785" the seminal work on the subject. Plate CLXII.
